FIVE BEACON REVIEW FOR PLOT TWIST
by Donna J. Thompson

Julie Cromwell is a wealthy and manipulative woman… and
now she’s dead.  As Karl Larkin seeks answer to who
killed her and why, he finds many skeletons in her
family closet and develops a personal relationship with
a possible suspect.

I enjoyed every aspect of this book. The characters are
diverse, yet well-developed. The dialogue is
well-conceived and delivered wonderfully.  The writing
is concise and entertaining.  The author appears to
have worked and reworked every part of the story to
near perfection.  This is a great “who-done-it,” that
was a pleasure to read.

Truly good writers make the story-telling seem
effortless and this author has done just that.  The
development and technical writing are superb.  This
author has all the tools and knows how to use them.
Well done!

Reviewer: Melissa Pike (New York) -
A selfish wife who plots her own kidnapping and ends up dead. A tough-as-nails police detective who falls in love with a prime suspect and gets burned. A glamorous romance writer who has never known how to love... These are but a few ironic curves a reader will encounter on her journey through Plot Twist, a remarkable debut novel by author Donna Thompson. I could not stop reading this book! The author possesses a storytelling style that is nothing short of hypnotic. Coupled with a talent for creating vivid, likeable charcters, and setting them in a story current that moves at the pace of a raging river, Plot Twist is mystery writing at its finest. I look forward to reading more by this amazing author!

Reviews

In this tale of crime, the reader joins Detective Karl Larkin as he investigates the citizens of Springfield to seek out justice for Julie Cromwell, a woman murdered during her own planned kidnapping.

The case is further complicated as Larkin struggles with his feelings towards Julie’s stepdaughter, Cassie Thompson, who happens to be a lead suspect.

Donna J. Thompson has written a no-nonsense, action-packed story that is filled with authentic characters of diverse backgrounds. Thompson brings the novel to an unexpected ending that will leave readers in shock.

I would especially recommend Plot Twist to those who enjoy a good whodunit.

Review by Pierette Lili Camps

I first told Donna that I would read her manuscript while I had two hours leisure time, flying to Denver this week. Just out of curiosity, I started pursuing the first paragraphs of “Plot Twist” for, as we all know they are the ones that get us started and let us know if we want to go on or not.  Well—was I in for a big surprise?  You have to like an opener that starts:

Karl Larkin, lead detective for the Springfield Police Department, says murder is like having a tooth pulled.  No one wants to do it, but sometimes it is necessary, or so the murderer thinks.  Unfortunately, in the twenty years he had worked as a police officer, he had seen plenty of extractions.

Well you won’t be surprised to know that I finished reading the whole thing in a couple of days. (I am a slow reader)  It was not only well written, but the plot never faltered from the beginning of the crime of this wealthy woman to it’s final resolve.  This family, however wealthy, is from hell it seems, as our detective goes about discovering the horrendous secrets therein, that include incest, abuses of all kind, like children that don’t belong to the husbands.  One is kept constantly in suspense, with no hint who-so-ever committed the crime, which is not revealed until the last pages. (I was good, I didn’t peek!)

I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between our handsome detective Karl Larkin, and one of the beautiful suspects in the murder.  It all stayed in keeping with the way I think a police department is run.  Karl Larkin is a very engaging fellow, who one cannot help but like for his good heart and common sense.  For as he said, “Justice is not always done and the guy doesn’t always get the girl, in the real world

I hope I haven’t given too much of the plot away.  I liked it and I know you will too.  Well Done Donna.  I give this one 5 well merited stars!

Review Of Plot Twist

Donna Thompson is a very gifted Author and I have enjoyed reading “Plot Twist”

Detective Larkin is a Detective that never gave up on trying to solve the case of a dead woman. I will give it an E for excellent and five stars. Donna Thompson made me feel like I was right there with her characters walking through each step until finally the case was solved. The title says it all,  because it definitely was twisted. If you are interested in reading a good detective story with a twist, then this is definitely a book you need to read. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all mystery lovers both far and wide. Thanks.

Review of Plot Twist

Donna Thompson has created a classic detective/who dunnit story, filled with twists and turns and uncertainties. She has managed to sustain the suspense to the last few pages of the book with characters whose actions were well justified. Her ending came quickly and decisively and this time the hero didn't get the girl. Refreshing. She was far too elegant to endure a crusty detective and the rigors that go with it.

                                                  Review of Plot Twist

I must say that so many mystery books give the idenity of the viliain away to early in the book. Most I have read I know who done it before the end of the first chapter, which makes for a dull read. Not so with Donna Thompson’s book Plot Twist. Donna’s book kept me on the edge of my seat chapter by chapter. Doubt was cast on all the characters with the exception of the lead detective and his overweight partner. At times I visualized them as the two detectives on Dragnet, but softer somehow.

There was a love that developed among two, which will bring out the romance reader in us all. There was abuse that will break your heart, and neglected children to be found there too. A mother’s love that is unsurpassed and another whose love is of the simplest form, and a beautiful writer of the written word.

I would like to quote Cassie Thompson, one of the characters who just happened to be an author.

"You learn slow, Detective, but you learn well," she chuckled. "Don't get me wrong. I paint pictures with words and nothing gives me greater pleasure than having a fan tell me they couldn't put my book down. That is when I know I've done my job well. When does it happen for you...? I mean, when do you know you have done your job?"

Donna has done that for her readers. She has painted a picture with word, and she has done her job well. Well done, Donna!

GOD BLESS YOU!
